Common Stove Questions and Answers

questions

If you have had your stove fitted and installed by a trained professional and you follow all the correct instructions when operating the stove, you shouldn’t come across any or very few difficulties. Fortunately, in most cases the problems can be solved very easily. Here are a few common questions and answers:

Why isn’t my Stove producing enough heat?

Firstly, this could be caused by simply the fact you may not have bought a big enough sized stove to warm the whole of your room hence why you think not enough heat is being produced. But if you have got the correct sized stove then we normally advise you to have a read through the manual to ensure you are using the stove properly.

Secondly, this problem could be caused by insufficient air supply. This means that your fire isn’t getting enough air to it so therefore not getting going enough to produce the heat you want from it.

Thirdly, this can basically be caused by wet/poor quality fuel that you are burning.

Why is my Stove producing too much heat?

Now you may read this question and think there is no such thing as too much heat but for some people too much can become very uncomfortable. Not only this but it can also cause damage to your stove. The most common problem that causes this is that the fire is getting too much air. But if this is just a recent problem, and your stove has been running perfectly previously, then it may be that the door gasket isn’t sealed properly.

Why is my brand-new Stove giving off a bad smell?

If your brand-new stove is giving off a bad smell, then this is completely normal and should go within a few days. While the stove burns off the excess oils, ensure you keep your room well ventilated. However, if this lasts for more than 5 days the contact the manufacturer.

Why is there smoke coming into the room?

The most common cause for this is a blocked chimney, poor ventilation or blocked passages in the stove. To prevent blockages in your chimney ensure you get it cleaned the recommended times a year. Read more here on getting your chimney swept.

Why is my glass dirty?

Many brands are now introducing the Airwash cleaning system into all their stoves. This helps to keep your glass sparkling clean. But don’t forget if you don’t clean your glass the build up of soot and smoke can become very difficult to remove if not done on a regular basis. Also make sure you are burning quality seasoned logs, and none are touching the glass when fuelling your fire.
