And then follow the advice given below…
Is the glass on your wood-burning stove’s door cracked?
In that case, purchasing a new wood-burning stove is not necessary. All you have to do is swap out the glass instead.
As long as you take action, the glass will be able to withstand the high temperatures produced by your stove. The glass will be weakened if you notice any cracks, holes, or breaks. Instead of running the danger of the entire thing breaking one day, it is advisable to replace it as soon as feasible.
How to replace your stove glass?
- The door should be cleaned. Before continuing, it is worthwhile to give the door a quick cleaning because it is probably covered in ash and debris.
- Take the door off. Although it’s not necessary, doing this is typically simple and will make replacing the glass much easier if your stove allows it. Lifting the door off its hinges is generally enough to remove it, but check your stove’s handbook to make sure it’s the right method for your particular item.
- Put the door face down on a surface that you are happy working on, and suitable for the job. Remember that no matter how hard you try to clean the door, the surface will probably get dirty.
- Let the glass safely fall. Again, different stoves have different methods for doing this, but most of them include a metal catch that is fastened to the door with bolts or screws. To remove the glass, simply release them by shifting the catch to the side or, if required, removing the screw or bolt. You may discover that these catches are a little tough because, of course, they must be rather solid to start with, and that’s before your stove starts to leave tar deposits. The solution in this case should be a drop of WD40 and a pair of pliers.
- Remove the glass carefully. Keep in mind that the glass could break away at any time as you begin to loosen the latches. Use extra caution when handling the glass’s cracked area.
- Examine the stove rope. Stove rope is typically used to create the seal between the glass and the door. Over time, something may have frayed or snapped. Replacement rope is available here. [Link to rope sealing kits]
- Put the new glass in place. On top of the fire rope, lay the replacement stove glass on the door. After that, replace the catches and tighten any bolts or screws that you loosened during the removal procedure. However, be cautious not to overtighten, since this may result in a crack in your new glass.
