MAINTAINING YOUR STOVE

Maintaining your stove

Summer is the best time of the year to refurbish your stove to get it back up to the high standard you want to get out of it in the cold winter months. As we state on the individual products, stove brands usually offer a guarantee on the stove itself but depending on the manufacturer this doesn't normally extend to the internal parts. The main reason for this is because the quality of the parts all depends on how the stove is being used, for example what fuel is being burned or if the stove is being used at extreme temperatures. These factors can affect the quality of the parts meaning that every stove is different.

As we all know with any appliance, wear and tear in unavoidable. To avoid being in a sticky situation when it comes to winter, order the important parts now so you have them at home if it comes down to it. Another reason to start stocking up now is because manufacturers are always changing their products and spare parts. It is always better to have more than you need than not to have any.

There are three main spare parts that are important to have in tip top condition to keep your stove running as efficiently and effectively as possible:

Grate

The bottom grate is the part that gets the most bashing due to having the burning fuel sat on it. As expected, wear and tear is usually unavoidable on this part but there are precautions that can be taken to get the most out of the grate, for example burn the correct fuel for the stove and always burn at a reasonable temperature because being operated too hot will affect not only this part but many others.

Baffle

The baffle plate is situated at the top of the firebox and its main aim is to keep all the flammable gases in for as long as possible. Due to the nature of the baffle, it is in constant interaction with very hot gases and can be a place where the corrosive ashes can land. If the baffle plate was to get damaged this can have severe effects on the efficiency of your stove and this is something that you want to avoid.

Glass

Even though stove glass is a lot tougher than normal glass, it is still in contact with extremely hot gases and explosive pieces of fuel. So take into consideration when fuelling your stove, that it is not touching the glass or overfilled as these can be the reasons for it cracking. You can try and avoid the glass from smashing but it is always helpful to have a spare if it does occur.

Having all these spare parts in stock can help you to avoid being cold in the winter months when you really need your stove to work at its best.
