Spring has Sprung<\/h3>\n

Spring is now upon us and the dark winters will start to recede; lighter evenings will be upon us. Hopefully, your stove will have performed admirably over the winter, keeping you and\u00a0your home warm and cosy.<\/p>\n

Even though it is now getting warmer, you will\u00a0probably be still using your stove over Spring, albeit more sparingly.<\/p>\n

But nevertheless, spring is an ideal time to give your stove a clean and check for any maintenance jobs that may be required.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Paying someone else to do it<\/h3>\n
\n\t

If you don't fancy cleaning your stove, you could always get someone else to do it.\u00a0If you're getting your chimney swept, then it is possible\u00a0they may offer a to clean and service your stove\u00a0as well. Just ensure that they are HETAS registered engineers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Start with the inside of your stove.<\/h3>\n
\n\t

Before you do anything, ensure you\u00a0have allowed enough time for your stove to cool. You don't want to be\u00a0burnt.<\/p>\n

Firstly, using a dustpan and brush or a hoover, remove all the debris and ash from inside the stove.<\/p>\n

Once all the ash and debris has been\u00a0cleaned out, remove all the internal parts\u00a0like the\u00a0firebricks and ash pan. Just remember that firebricks can crack when handled so be cautious. This is a good time to check for damage to these parts as there is no point cleaning them if they are to be replaced.<\/p>\n

Now clean the internal firebox again, use a wire brush if required for hard-to-reach areas as you will have missed some areas.<\/p>\n

Finally, clean all the parts you have removed separately before placing them back into the stove. Any damaged bricks or parts should be replaced.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

The glass door<\/h3>\n

Your glass door is an important aspect of your stove and should be regularly checked and maintained.<\/p>\n

The best way to maintain your door is to firstly remove the glass. You can then\u00a0clean it using a suitable glass cleaner and inspect for any\u00a0damage.If your glass is cracked then it must be replaced.<\/p>\n

Check the\u00a0rope seal on the door. If it is worn or loose then replace it with a new one. it is important to do this otherwise smoke can leak into your room. Remember that you will need glue to fit the new rope seal.<\/p>\n

Also you\u00a0can lightly oil your door and hinges\u00a0to ensure smooth operation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

The exterior of your stove<\/h3>\n

Everyone wants to keep their stove looking great, especially as they are so often used as a focal point in a room.<\/p>\n

Your stove can be simply cleaned using a soft, lightly dampened cloth.<\/p>\n

Check for damage, chips and rust. These are easily repaired and covered up using stove paint.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Also ensure\u00a0your hearth, mantle and any pipes are suitably checked and cleaned<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

The chimney<\/h3>\n

Getting your chimney swept is an essential element of your stove spring cleaning. \u00a0It should be done at varying times throughout the year and you can read more in our chimney maintenance<\/a> blog.<\/p>\n

Make sure you use a NACS <\/a>certified sweep. They will provide you with a suitable certificate and will also ensure a thorough clean and inspection of your chimney.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

And don't forget your alarms<\/h3>\n

Often overlooked, you should check both your smoke alarm and carbon monoxide alarms.<\/p>\n
